I’ve been thumbing through the giant collection by Brian Walker called “The Comics: The Complete Collection”. Despite the ironically overreaching title, it is a massive resource of comics and cartoonists dating back to the Yellow Kid. “Little Nemo in Slumberland” immediately caught my eye and I learned a little about a great artist named Winsor McCay.

His art inspired me to try to emulate his style. This doesn’t mean I’m going to start doing this every week, but I might start trying to do do this every now and then to pay tribute to other great cartoonists. This entire comic was completed in a little over five hours and done completely on my Wacom pad… Sort of ironic for a strip that is paying homage to an artist from over a century ago!

By the way, that incorrect headline really does exist. I’d rant about that more, but I just want to sit back and enjoy this strip for a bit. Read the article for yourself and tell me if you think that title is way off base.

Let’s welcome our newest character, Feynman. This curmudgeon is named in honor of the non-curmudgeon, Richard Feynman. Probably the most famous physicist after Einstein, Dr. Feynman was a brilliant, articulate who exemplified one of the best traits of a good scientist… raw curiosity. I highly recommend his books. Just to get a feel for the guy, watch the following.

What could be more epic than Dalton actually going to work? Long time fans know that Dalton has hemmed and hawed about his participation in gainful employment, so that last panel is sort of a big deal…

By the way, just in case you’ve never seen the CPDRC inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center’s most famous routine, I’ve included it below. Apparently, they also dig Queen (and they aren’t the only ones….). CPDRC even did a version of one of my favorite 80’s songs, “Living in Electric Dreams”, but the quality is poor.

Knowing this strip’s occasional divergence into political humor, my brother forwarded this little YouTube gem to me. If you’ve been following the fallout from the Senate upset in Massachusetts you’ll appreciate this one as much as I did. (PG-13, kids!)
