I’ll be the first to confess I don’t understand all of the subtleties of Google’s and Verizon’s joint legislative framework for the future of the internet, but it doesn’t quite sound as altruistic as those two make it out to be. Here is one article that is against it and one that is more sympathetic.

Hey, I’ll be away from the website for a couple weeks, but I’ve got everything all set up and automated. Last time I went on a big vacation, I took the rats with me. Don’t tell them I’m sneaking out without them this time!

A tip of the hat to the scientists and engineers who (crossed fingers) successfully capped the gusher in the Gulf. Whether it took too long, whether it will hold, whether it should’ve ever happened, you can’t fault the men and women who stopped it.

Yes, we’re not number one yet. Of course, this is based off the low-ball estimate. And since it ticks up with every re-assessment, I see no reason for even the higher ones to be accurate. We could easily be in second place, so put that in your pipeline and smoke it, Trinidad and Mexico.

Number one? Kuwait during the first Gulf War. The story goes that Iraqi forces intentionally created the leak to slow American forces… to the tune of 520 million gallons. Nice.
